Big Finish Productions is thrilled to announce details of The Mayfair Monster: a forthcoming New Year special release in The Confessions of Dorian Gray series, written by and starring Alexander Vlahos! Plus information on a complete CD box set!
‘The Mayfair Monster is a very different story,’ says producer Scott Handcock. ‘Not only has it been written by Alex and Jolyon Westhorpe, but it’s also a two-part tale, with the episodes due to be made available for release a week apart. It’s the first time we’ve done a proper Dorian cliffhanger – and it’s a thriller!’
‘The story itself takes place in 1999, building up to the turn of a new millennium and all the fallout that comes with it. It’s very much a period for change, and the challenges that face Dorian are unlike any we’ve seen before – plus there’s the titular Mayfair Monster to contend with – and Alex really does understand how to get under Dorian’s skin!’
Joining Alexander Vlahos for The Confessions of Dorian Gray: The Mayfair Monster are Colin Baker (Doctor Who’s sixth incarnation), Hannah Spearritt (Primeval’s Abby Maitland) and Bernard Holley (Doctor Who, Z-Cars). The story will be available to download from Saturday 28th December 2013 (episode one) and Saturday 4th January 2014 (episode two), and can be pre-ordered now for £5, rising to £7.99 upon release.
The Mayfair Monster will also be included as part of a special CD box set – The Confessions of Dorian Gray: The Complete First and Second Series – due for release in January. Please note, though, that this box set will not come with a free download of the stories.
‘From the moment the series made its debut last year, fans have written to Big Finish asking whether there was any possibility of a physical release,’ explains Scott Handcock, ‘and for a long time, we’ve resisted, wanting to experiment with the download-only format. But the requests haven’t stopped – it’s clearly something our listeners would like – and so we’re now pulling together a special box set that includes as much as we possibly can! Fingers crossed, if Dorian has a third outing, we’ll be able to announce CD and download releases simultaneously!’
The ten-disc set will feature every episode from the first two series of The Confessions of Dorian Gray, including the three extended specials (Ghosts of Christmas Past, The Prime of Deacon Brodie and The Mayfair Monster). Bonus material will include the Bernice Summerfield crossover adventure Shades of Gray (previously available as part of the Legion box set), together with a soundtrack CD showcasing James Dunlop’s impressive score from the series, and introductions from Alexander Vlahos to accompany his favourite episodes.
The Confessions of Dorian Gray: The Complete First and Second Series is available to pre-order now for £25, rising to £30 upon release. A reminder also that this box set will not come with a free download of the stories.
