
Hassan Nazer’s film ‘Utopia’ (in which Hannah plays Lucy) has been selected to present Afghanistan in the Academy Awards for Best Foreign Language Film! That’s brilliant news, best of luck to everyone! Nine shortlisted contenders will be revealed a week before the announcement of the Oscar nominations.
Hassan Nazer’s Dari, Hindi and English-language film “Utopia” will represent Afghanistan in the foreign-language film category at the 88th Academy Awards.
“Utopia” (aka “ArmanShahr”) follows an Afghan woman as she travels to the U.K. for artificial insemination. Complications arise when a British student at the infertility clinic decides to swap the donor semen for his own and the woman finds out that he is from a family with a long history of military conflict in her homeland.
The film is a co-production between Afghanistan’s Afghanfilm and Nay Media Production, India’s Apus Pictures and the U.K.’s Tripswitch Productions and World Film Production. Nazer’s previous credits include “Black Day” and “Inja Iran”.
“Utopia” was an official selection at the Fajr International Film Festival, Iran, and the Malaysia International Film Festival.
